ONE DAY THE FESTIVAL MUST COME

The focus of this evening is a personal discussion of a writer with Ingeborg Bachmann.

ROBERT SCHINDEL

Born 1944 in Bad Hall, Upper Austria. As

Jewish communists involved in the Nazi resistance activities, his parents were deported to Auschwitz. Schindel survived under a false name in a children's home, the "Volkswohlfahrt" or Peoples Welfare. Schindel was the Chairman of the Jury for the Ingeborg Bachmann prize from 1999 to 2002.

Robert Schindel has lived since 1986 as a freelance writer in Vienna. Together with writer Sabine Scholl he heads the Bachelor's course of Language at the University of Applied Arts. Recently published: Dunkelstein. Eine Realfarce (2010).

A presentation by the Robert Musil Institute, the University of Klagenfurt and the Cultural Department of the state of Klagenfurt.

The Exlibris (bookplate) was originally used to identify books. At the beginning of the 20th Century the Ex-libris became an object for collections in bibliophile circles. The ex-libris has long-since ceased to be just a statement of ownership, but now symbolizes the owners pride and personality.

 

The graphics students attended a workshop in  Schloss Raabs, in order to become acquainted with the high pressure printing, a typical Ex-libris printing technique. A few examples were printed which are now on show in the exhibition. Today, the distribution and possession of knowledge or enjoyment is accepted in many forms. From this perspective it makes sense to take a critical look at the relationship between knowledge and ownership, possession of pride and possessiveness.
