Barbara Fontaine

Barbara Fontaine was born in Paris in 1968. She studied German and Romance Languages and Literature. She has been a full-time translator from German since 1999. Her specialist area is literature.

Literature and the Humanities

Barbara Fontaine translates texts by contemporary authors, including for example Hans-Ulrich Treichel, Katja Lange-Müller, Kevin Vennemann, and she also finds time to translate texts on humanities subjects.

André Gide Prize winner

In 2008 she was awarded the André Gide Prize for her translation of Stefan Wackwitz's "Ein unsichtbares Land" (An Invisible Country).

Translation courses

Since 2009 she has been giving courses in translation at various universities (Strasbourg, Angers, Paris-X and Brussels).
